She explodes overhead.
Spiraling
down
astral fragments,
that sear with arctic screams.
Frosted in
shimmering nebulae
I drown
in
stardust ecstasy.
And then,
I am
Reborn
So are you saying that Carl Segan walks among us?
Picture yourself in a world where Carl Segan yet lives. and not just one Carl Segan but millions and billions of tiny Carl Segans, each wearing a slightly different shade of tweed coat...now picture millions and billions of these worlds lined up as far as the eye can see..adding up to one giant Carl Segan.

Posted by: irish-girl on January 26, 2003 01:42 AMErotic Poetry contest?
Posted by: bill on January 26, 2003 02:45 PMindeed. i would suggest making a reservation, as it usually gets more crowded than the usual monthly slams -- and it's a friday, too.
slam starts at 8. sign-up is at 7:30.
if you've never been to one, here's how it works:
- poets sign up
- 5 judges are chosen randomly from the audience
- poets perform their pieces one at a time (work must be of their own creation, 3 minutes or less, and not include any props or music)
- judges hold up their scores (like at olympic diving)
- audience cheers or boos for the scores, but always claps for the poet
- scorekeeper drops the high and low score and adds the 3 middle scores
- after all the poets are done, the top scores move to the second round and so on
- there are 3 rounds. top 5 scores at the end of it all win cash and Kieran's gift certificates and the adoration of women (or men) in the audience
it's usually a good time, even if you just watch.

Posted by: irish-girl on January 26, 2003 03:14 PMMy roommate just got the entire Cosmos series on DVD. We've only watched the first one so far, but I was pretty impresssed. Those things hold up pretty well for having been made in the early 70s.
