Signs that the apocalypse is nigh: Volume I
`Wild Hogs' rides to No. 1 at box office (AP)
What should I find more offensive, the fact that people paid money to see a movie that stars Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence, William H. Macy and John Travolta, or the fact that gmail featured that link above my inbox?
Jill has been harping on this for days. She is obsessed with it. Personally, I saw it coming a mile away. The movie (which I haven't seen, and don't intend to) plays into every middle-aged guy's fantasy. You know, the guy who has been emasculated by his shrewish wife and then he finally rises up and embraces his inner MAN, reclaiming what he has lost in a male-bonding adventure with his true friends. It's a formula that has worked well in the past, from "City Slickers" to "Old School." Although, personally, I have no idea why any man would ever feel that way. I certainly don't.
I KNOW!!! When I first heard of this movie I said "that's a flop for sure." I've lost all faith in mankind (and my ability to assess pop culture).
My ability to assess pop culture was officially dead when Norbit became the #1 movie in America. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY?
First of all, the buddy comedy is the greatest genre in the history of American cinema. OK, second greatest genre, behind animated movies about the rainforest (I'm looking at you, "Ferngully"!).
Second, "Wild Hogs" is just keeping that spot warm for this weekend's opening of "300," every Classicist's wet dream. Just one question for you...
HAVE YOU SEEN "SIN CITY"?
Lance Bass to Write His Autobiography
Star Jones Gets hew own TV Show
Kevin is considered the responsible parent in that train wreck
signs of the apocolypse . . .
seen it and read it, own the whole series, own 300, still waiting for them to release a watchmen movie.....fuck i just realized im a comic nerd
It's got William H. Macy in it. Problem solved.
What is happening to our country? It's called LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR! Not everyone can translate Latin, knows the difference between saying her and I or she and I, or even cares. You're in the minority--get used to it.
Some of my faith in humanity was restored this weekend. Not just because "300" was the #1 movie at the box office (that was mostly because it was violent), but because when I was walking out of the theater after seeing it the second time, I actually overheard an adolescent saying, "Dang dude, it makes me wish I knew more history..."
Yes, I would rather they get their history from Herodotus than Frank Miller, but still, it's the small victories that count.
