Ok, plenty other people do it way better than myself, but dang if I didn't search high and low this weekend for a solution to centering a floated div and finally came up with a few pages that lead me to eventual success. What a pain! Perhaps this will help somebody else out there. At least with tables you knew exactly what you'd get...

Awesome news - my new pal Bill True's movie RUNAWAY just won Best Narrative Feature at the Austin Film Festival! Congratulations, Bill! If you get a chance to see this movie anywhere soon, please check it out - a great first film and great story!

At home, of course. There were four deer in all, and seeing the shadowy shape of the buck against a full-moon-lit autumn sky gave me a very ancient and powerful feeling.
Yesterday was quite the day of events worth filming -- first, the Grim Racer 20k mountain bike race, an afternoon at the orchard picking apples, and then the experience that was the Zombie Pub Crawl. Video for the Zombies in now online both here and at MNstories.com - enjoy!

TV show downloads for same price as videos ($1.99) but at QVGA size (320x240)? Engadget's story. The Apple site. My annoyed disappointment...
Ok, so it appears that FrontRow is for the new iMac only and it does not integrate with your TV, just on-screen on the iMac. Nor for the iPod since it doesn't have bluetooth (but it does have video-out). What about all the other pre-existing Macs?! All bajillion of them - they don't get to use it? Glad I grabbed the new Salling Clicker 3.0 yesterday. I guess the built-in magnet for attaching to the side of the new iMac is too hard to retrofit in the older models?
No new iSight for other Macs. Again, what? Why not? Bring it on. Photobooth is surely no Photoshop killer, more like an actual photobooth with some "zany" effects in it. I was hoping for something more like ChocoFlop.
But please note, the new iMac is either a 1.9 GHz or 2.1 GHz G5 chip with 128 meg X600 video card. 8x SuperDrive. MightyMouse. iSight. FrontRow. AirPort Extreme. Bluetooth 2. Really, not bad.
what the hell do you call the feeling inside me right now? all damn day yesterday. argh. it is so damn overpowering and mainly is super-ennui, yet confusingly mixed up with a skittery, shallow-breathing, slowly boiling and roiling build up of extreme pressure like a brooding ominous sky before the breaking of a storm. and no, it isn't a panic attack, I've had literally thousands of those and this feels nothing like it. it also feels like extreme over-caffeination where there is a pent up energy that cannot be released. I feel paralyzed yet like I'm about to spazz out. I feel depressed yet agitated. I need a word for it!

NetNewsWire, the best RSS app on the Mac, was bought by NewsGator, Weblogs.com was bought by Verisign, Weblogs, Inc (engadget.com and many others) was bought by AOL, Upcoming.org was bought by Yahoo, Google releases an RSS reader, 37signals releases Writeboard, Ning is out, MovableType 3.2 is out, Gallery 2 is out, and Apple has some sort of big announcement next week... I need more time to play! Oh, and Jack finally got a G5.

posted by jeremy at 06:32 PM | comments (0)Aaah, finally, a bit of relaxation. Even though I worked at work on Saturday, I still got some a breather and was able to shed some stress this weekend.
My co-worker Steve (aka "Dirty Steve") won some tickets off the radio the other night and didn't really intend to so he wasn't in the know about what he had won -- tickets to see Live and some movie premiere passes -- so he gave them away to me. Sweet. The slight bummer was that Meghan, who already told me that Saturday night was "my time," had agreed to babysit Elise so she couldn't attend. And it was at The Myth nightclub. In Maplewood. So I wasn't super keen about attending but I was determined to get out of the house and do something social and, free tickets to a decent band, well, yeah, I went.
It seemed like a drive across eternity to get there and I was pretty hungry so I stopped en route to eat at Red Robin (love that turkey burger) and had a nice leisurely solo meal at the bar. Finally got to Myth, embedded within the Maplewood Mall site, and had to park three parking lots over at Marshall Field's. Yeah, nice. Bad enough this place is way out in the 'burbs and that on first glance you cannot tell it from the blue-neon Ashely furniture megastore next door. Seriously, what must the bands think when they drive up to a frickin' mall complex? "Um, dude... we're playing... a furniture store?"
Anyway, to make a long story much shorter, the venue is nice and big, great lighting setup, pretty nice sound system, multiple camera operators and dual big-screen projectors, nice stage, multiple bars, and sky boxes (sky boxes!) for the richie-rich. Drawbacks were the location, the smoking, and the airbrushed full-color Deadwood South Dakota long-sleeve t-shirts and stretchpants and denim vests (jackets with sleeves removed, oh yes) fashionistas. Seriously a rather odd mix of mode.
Amusing bits: The accountant/IT guy next to me (I'm going by look and actions) could not for the life of him sway his arm in the air like he just didn't care along with the rest of the crowd. The band was good but I have to say to the guitarist on stage-left: Just stop. You are playing a power-ballad pop/rock song and your part is to play the kabbas (the steel beeds on the can thing) as a subtle accent. You cannot play it as if you are part of Rage Against The Machine or Ministry! That's like showing up to Sturgis riding a kid's toy kick scooter with a Hello Kitty t-shirt on and claiming you're hardcore. I'm not buying it. Once the show was done, the DJ then boomed out in a lame-o big-radio voice over the P.A. system that "Right now, all drinks are 2 for 1 for the next half-hour -- so go get 'em!" and he really meant to spur us into action. Puh-lease.
The highlight of the night was the fact that the show was done by 10:30pm and I was able to go over to Barnes and Noble. I like books. I am a nerd. Sweet.
Today we had breakfast at Eggie's and then I peeled a giant bag of apples for some apple crisp and Meg and I cooked up a Hungarian Stoup (not as thick as stew but thicker than soup) for the Tribe dinner tonight (which was delicious but our big double-batch barely fed 10 people). And then all afternoon I sat in a chair in the backyard, in the fresh air and little bit of sun, and finished reading my book - the authorised biography of Siouxsie and The Banshees. What a gripping read! The stumbles, the fights, the music, the shows, the chemicals... yikes. Very open and raw and (seemingly) uncensored. If you are a fan, read this book.
Oh, and the free mom? Yeah, I took a short jaunt on my scooter today and encountered a bunch of elementary-aged kids riding bikes and skateboards in the street. They gathered 'round and admired the scooter and tried to get my autograph (wha...?) and one kid offered to trade his little BMX bike for my scooter. His possibly wiser compatriot got my attention and said, with all sincerity, "I'll trade you my mom for it." I should've at least got her resume -- maybe she's good at laundry or cooking or shoveling snow.
