berry-munching critters be gone! I have this lovely crazy little blueberry bush in my backyard and I have been anxiously awaiting the ripening of the fruits this summer. They popped out a few weeks ago and have been growing well ever since. Although only about 24 berries seemed to be growing on the bush, I have been eager to taste their flavor. Last weekend I noticed that one berry had turned a nice deep purple and the others were heading the same direction. I sampled it. Just a bit too sour tasting. I figured about another couple of days ought to do it and they'd be bursting with flavorul juices! Imagine my great disappointment yesterday morning when I went out to harvest my blueberries -- every last one of them was gone! The only trace of the berries was one dried up husk on the sidewalk. Those darned squirrels are my prime suspects as they are always hanging around looking suspicious and hiding when you come near. Or maybe those little chipmunks that appear to be oh-so-cute. Hmph.
