Icelandic Music My friend Amy sent over an email about a story on Frontline regarding the Icelandic Airwaves Music Festival (something I've been wishing to attend for two years now). The sub-site is pretty cool and has pictures and music samples. Worth checking out. There's more than just Bjork (although "just Bjork" is plenty in my book - she rules). Yes, Bjork is good, but my favorite Icelandic singer is Emiliana Torrini. Ethereal and haunting, her vocals are fantastic. Check out "The Boy Who Giggled So Sweet", "Unemployed in Summertime", and any of her covers. She's great! posted by: J.D. on January 18, 2003 1:49 PMyeah, did you notice that during the credits of "The Two Towers" there is an Emiliana Torrini song playing? Awesome. posted by: jeremyw on January 18, 2003 2:19 PMYes, I noticed the Emiliana Torrini song at the end of "Two Towers". We were standing up to walk out, and I wasn't paying much attention to the song, but then something -- some lilt of the voice, some musical phrasing -- caught my ear, and I said to myself, "Wait -- that's Emiliana Torrini." I wanted to gush to my friends, but none of them would have known who she is... posted by: J.D. on January 19, 2003 12:49 AMwell, I did gush to my friends. they thought it was cool that I was so into figuring out who it was. originally I said, Oh, this is Allison Goldfrapp, but the more I listened, the more I knew it wasn't. Suddenly I knew it was Emiliana and finally the credits came up and confirmed. So gush away! they'll appreciate your enthusiasm. posted by: jeremy w on January 19, 2003 1:01 PM |
