Apple Ups Ante

Apple released some tweaked PowerMacs today -- 1 ghz, dual 1.2 and dual 1.45 ghz machines along with a new 4x SuperDrive (DVD-burner) ... and... a new 20" Cinema Display! Woohoo. I want the display, yes indeed. And don't forget, this weekend is the release of the new/updated iLife (iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto) software.

Sure. Now that I want my next computer to be a laptop, they lower the prices on desktops!

Lowering prices??The BASTARDS!

We must retaliate by buying both models to show them who's boss.

is anybody else as unimpressed with the jump in speed this time as I am. yes.. 1.4ghz is fast.. but really.. I suppose that is why they didn't introduce it at the Mac expo.

It's a bit less than a 13% speed increase as far as the processors go. As those speeds have gotten higher the jumps, smaller. However, they have added the new 800 firewire, a huge jump. Double the 2meg cache, Big bump, faster throughput system and bus, so overall the anticipated speed increase for the WHOLE system is more like 25 -35% This is HUGE in today's "really got to squeeze to get a drop of speed" reality. plus we have seen a massive drop in price..I predict this will kick sales in the ass
