Honda Advert

Have you seen the new Honda commercial? Brilliantly done Rube Goldberg-esque chain reaction video. Well done. And it only took something like 606 takes to get it right. If so, I think that is a world record of takes.

WOW.. that is a fun spot.. and I am sure that the crew said the exact same thing when they finally got the final take they all shouted isn't it great when things just work.. and then the director said, lets get one for safety.

Warning: Bubble Bursting!

While very very cool to look at, Sir Isaac Newton would take issue with the actual physics. This was not a true chain reaction. Several items had a bit of help. Check out the sequence at 24 seconds. The tires definitely have a some help getting up the ramp. You will see at exactly 30 seconds that the second to last tire "re rolls" up the ramp. Bummer - it would have been sweet if it had been real. God, I'm such a friggin geek.

Tires can roll uphill as long as they are eccentrically weighted. I've heard this to be the case with the gravity-defying tires. (I also came to the same conclusion myself while watching the commercial for the Nth time).

ps: the muffler seems to roll a bit too much - I hear this is where they spliced the take.

Interesting comment on the eccentrically weighted tires. Quite probable. However I understand that by words of the director that this was a true sequence, zero splicing. It's pure.
