Doc Says OK So it took longer than expected to get the results back from my CT scan last week, but I finally got the print-out and explanation: all good. No further testing needed. Um, wait a second... if no further tests are needed because everything is completely normal, why does my abdomen still ache on what is a rather continual basis? Sure, sometimes it lessens for a few days and I barely notice it, but some days it feels like a small painful balloon is located near my appendix. Still, all scans and blood tests and colonscopies show nothing abnormal. In fact, Doc says I look very healthy. So what next? Psychiatric treatment? Food allergies? Oh, I hope not. My diet is already more restrictive than I'd like as I can't eat dairy and I don't eat red meat. posted by jeremy at 09:43 AM | On This Day:

What about alternative therapies? Like pursuing some holistic approach to the issue? A good body worker could work with you on adjusting your internal organs and perhaps beating the pain. Just a thought. It's such a drag. I really feel for you. posted by: mopsa on June 21, 2003 9:55 AMDid they do a thorough check of your gall bladder? Two of my nephews had terrible abdominal pain for months and were on very restrictive diets (no flour-containing products, etc.) until one of them finally got their gall bladder out (my nephew really had to push for more gall bladder tests because they automatically labeled it Chrone's disease). Now they both have their's out and are back to normal, eating anything they want. posted by: Lauri Mueller on June 21, 2003 10:38 AMHmm, do you think it could be caused by stress? Sometimes when you're stressed, your hormones and the acidic levels in your tummy go out of whack. I sadly admit that I had/have this problem when I'm stressed. It feels like it should be an ulcer, but it's not. Maybe you're having pyloric spasms or the like? I know this all sounds really goofy, but I'm being serious, have you tried Pepcid AC Complete? That stuff does the trick for me. I know it all sounds so simple, but I underwent tests too to find my problem, they found nothing, and then they suggested the over-the-counter medication, and tada, cured. Very strange... posted by: Stacy on June 21, 2003 11:57 AMdo you think it could be an alien hatchling slowly getting ready for that day when it spurts out your belly? posted by: bill on June 21, 2003 10:22 PMso you did get the "good" news that isn't really good news... cus you really don't feel better right? sorry to hear that. However, I agree with the stress notion. and just based on your blogging, psychiatric care isn't for you. Yes, the meds, could probably make your belly feel better, but that's because they make you forget all your ailments, Live with the pain. eventually, you'll get beyond it. I did three years of testing, had my gall bladder yanked, even ended with a head CT... just to make sure, I wasn't a few screws loose. End decision, we have no clinic reason for your discomfort. would you like ??? to try psychiatric help? Hell no, I like to see my kids in the morning, and no I can respond to them in the night when required... so in the End, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or Gastroesophogeal reflux disease... whatever they want to term it... best to try natural, organic, holistic, homeopathic means... watch your diet, and just take care of yourself. :o) This is ol' irishgirl's cousin. I had similar issues for years and they tried everything... laparoscopy, colonoscopy, meds etc. to try to make my abdominal discomfort go away. I know it's related to stress and I know that big meals don't help, other than that we discovered nothing. They also labeled me with irritable bowel syndrome, which my doctor admitted they label anyone with mysterious abdominal pain that they cannot diagnose. One last thing to test for, and an idea for you, celiac disease...a problem digesting gluten, which can strike to various degrees. Meghan's grandpa had it, and they say 1 in 5 people have it these days in some minor form and don't know it. Good luck. At least it's not Crones, as I tell myself. posted by: justine on June 24, 2003 11:49 AMI was ready to just write off the discomfort to Gilbert's Syndrome, which runs in my family and is a liver condition where it just doesn't quite work right and can even swell up slightly. But the pain is below the liver, so I'm thinking that's not it. I'm eating well and, while I should exercise more than I do, I think I'm mostly fit and fine. I'll visit with my friends who do Chinese herbs and acupuncture and shiatsu. Thanks for the feedback, one and all. posted by: jeremy on June 24, 2003 6:23 PM |
