mndoc

Had an urge last night, late, and sent off an email that resulted in me attending a meeting of the MNDOC group of documentary filmmakers. I met Melody Gilbert and Chuck Olsen and a bunch of other interesting folks. And oh man, am I torqued up and excited. I've been looking for a group of people like this and I tried finding them in the local Final Cut Pro group but that seems to have petered out and they were way more into the technical aspects of the software (which certainly has its place and I like that too) and I'm not interested in becoming an editor-for-hire -- I'd rather make my own movies and tell stories that reel people in (no pun intended) and strike an emotional or intellectual or humorous nerve, ya know? I've always been one to just dive in, research, teach myself and get things done. If I can learn from peers along the way, all the better. And I like that this group is direct and blunt and supportive and challenging - even if it scares me.

I'm glad you came!
Sorry I didn't return your email way back when.
I think I was overwhlemed with trying to edit Blogumentary in time for the premiere. Anyway, we should do a followup for Minnesota Stories. Maybe we could use your DVX100a. :-)
